Under the Political Declaration of Russia and Greece that was adopted ,the following documents were signed in the presence of the President of Russia and the Prime Minister of Greece: 

  • a Joint Declaration of the Government of Russia and the Government of Greece on Partnership for Modernization; 
  • a Memorandum of Understanding on Inter-regional Cooperation Between the Russian Economic Development Ministry and the Greek Foreign Ministry; 
  • and a Road map on Broadening Russian-Greek Cooperation in Agriculture.
  • The relevant agencies signed a Joint Action Program in Tourism for 2016–2018
  • memoranda of understanding on cooperation in standardization, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, investment and trade
  • An Agreement on the Main Parameters of Oil and Petroleum Products Supply
  •  and a Memorandum of Understanding Between the Ural Federal University and the University of Piraeus regarding BRICS projects were signed as well.

Tourism 

Solve the problem of visas and we will send three million Russians in Greece

President Putin stressed that in March the increase in tourist arrivals from Russia to Greece, and reminded that Greece holds the first position in bookings for the Russians. 

This year, he said, one million Russians are expected to visit Greece, due also to the constraints on travel to Turkey and Egypt.

 If  the problem of visa could be promptly resolved this number would triple, the Russian President said.

“The Foreign Ministry, by Deputy Minister Nikos Xydakis, has assured that the procedure will normalize and the target of issuing 7,000 visas a day will rise from the current 2,000 by the end of May”, Mr. Andreadis Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) President underlined.Find that

A surprise for the Turks  

A Russian warship Pytlivy traversed Istanbul’s Bosphorus on May 26 by female officers on deck

An impressive  number of Russian military personnel were seen by the Turks to be lined up on the deck,  many of them woman officers, who did the sign of their  cross, Greek media report,  while passing from Aghia Sofia , the former Greek Orthodox Christian Church and symbol of the Constantinople, Istanbul. The Orthodox Cross gesture made en mass by the female Russian Navy officers was interpreted by Greek  media as a commemorating symbol in remembrance of the 29th of May, the day of the conquest of Constantinople in 1453 by the Ottoman Empire and its conversion into a mosque.
Today Aghia Sofia is a museum.

Addressing the convention, Greek Tourism Minister Ms Kountoura presented the goals of her ministry, which include extending the tourist season, working with 13 regions for the development of local tourism, actively promoting alternative forms of tourism, identifying and pushing new Greek destinations, opening up to new markets, upgrading the quality of tourism products and services, tapping into luxury tourism so as to increase revenue per visitor, improving infrastructure of tourism accommodation including airports, ports and marinas, as well as reinforcing tourism policy.

Greece may be showing impressively growing numbers of incoming tourists but Greek hotels don’t seem to be the ones cashing in on the good news, according to the latest report released by Gbr Consulting for the first quarter of the year.

For this year, SETE’s initial forecast was positive, with 1.5 million more arrivals, reaching 25 million, plus 2.5 million cruise arrivals. Tourism revenue was estimated to reach 15 billion euros, up by 800 million euros compared to 2015.
