The Holy Light arrives from Jerusalem at the international airport of Eleftherios Venizelos in Athens, Saturday, a little after 8 pm. on the PM’s airplane and was greeted with honours reserved for state leaders. A number of Russian military personnel were seen by the Turks to be lined up on the deck, many of them woman officers, who did the sign of their cross, Greek media report, while passing from Aghia Sofia , the former Greek Orthodox Christian Church and symbol of the Constantinopole, Istanbul. The gesture was interpreted by Greek media as a commemorating symbolic gesture for the 29th of May, the day of the conquest of Constantinople in 1453 by the Ottoman Empire and its conversion into a mosque.
