The ban on bathing on the coasts of Saronikos is being lifted by the Greek Maritime Ministry announced on Friday, a succesful result of the joint effort of ministerial ministers, the relevant municipalities, the port authorities the decontamination companies and and the volunteer groups, over the last eight months, the ministry press release said ..
A total ban on bathing in all the marine regions of the Attica, that were affected by the marine disaster last August, had been imposed due to the extensive pollution caused by the sinking of the tanker "Agia Zoni II", and the ban has been lifted by the decision of the Minister of Health for the beaches and sea activitry recommendations for the coast of Salamis.
Maritime Ministry said on its announcment that a complete rehabilitation of the marine environment has been conducted, and that soon the social and economic life of the areas affected by marine pollution due to the wreck will be restored ".
Following a mandate from the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Panagiotis Kourouplis, an on-site autopsy has been conducted in the run-up to the summer seasonhe by tdeputy head of the Marine and Island Policy Ministry who visited the area of the coastal front.
