Vandals on Saturday Dec 18, 2016 set fire on a Greek Orthodox church  of Archangel Michael in the Lagolio village of Crete and wrote “Allah is great”, infuriating locals.

According to e-mesara.gr news website, unknown perpetrators, which seem to be Muslims, apparently  migrants, set fire to the Church of Archangel Michael in Lagolio, burned holy icons and part of the chancel. But the police also examines to possibility of a provokacia

A passerby saw the fire and notified local residents who ran to put out the fire before it spread. The perpetrators had written “Allah is great” in Arabic on the walls.

The desecration of the church took place between 3 to 5 p.m., according to police sources. Police forces from Heraklion and Tymbaki are investigating the incident.

The Church of Archangel Michael is an important pilgrimage for the region and attracts many believers from surrounding areas to its annual feast.

The incident comes on a timing that has brought  local communities where migrants and refugees are hosted beyond their tolerance , and has  also alarmed  international commuity due the "lost" by Greece migrants that arrvie to Europe as aylum seekers after the rape of the  19 years old German studentin the German-Swiss borders
