WARSAW, Poland July 9 - President Barack Obama met with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Warsaw on Saturday, the White House said.
"The president commended Greece's cooperation with Turkey to reduce irregular migration and encouraged longer-term U.S.-Greece defense cooperation," a White House official said, Reuters wrote.
Sources close to the Greek Prime Minister, had said on the previous days, that President Obama had requested the meeting with Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of NATO summit.
The same Greek governmental sources said on July 9, afternoon, after the meeting that lasted half an hour as scheduled, that the Greek PM informed the US President on the unbearable difficulties Greece is facing in negotiating with the IMF for the bailout program and the Greek debt,, and asked for support from the US side for a solution to be found .
The leaders discussed the progress that Greece has made in addressing economic challenges and Obama encouraged Greece to continue implementing economic reforms, the Reuters had writen on the same moments.
